Squamish Wind Festival for the Arts
Response Deadline: February 28, 2021

The Squamish Wind Festival for the Arts (SWFTA) is back for 2021 presented by the
Squamish Arts Council. The Squamish Arts Council (SAC) wishes to seek out the expertise of a Festival Director for the management and coordination of the SWFTA 2021

Project Goals:

The Squamish Wind Festival for the Arts (SWFTA) is a free celebration of Arts, Culture, and Heritage in Squamish, BC. It occurs annually in the summer, and the 2021 season will see the festival return with the focus on supporting and showcasing local artists, and connecting the community through Arts and Culture experiences, all while maintaining health guidelines and ensuring safety as was accomplished in the 2020 festival. The festival is curated by the Squamish Arts Council, a community non-profit whose mission is to support the community, cultivate accessible arts and cultural experiences and create awareness of Sea to Sky artists from all creative disciplines.

In 2020, SAC had the largest presentation of BC musicians, artists, artisans, and Heritage performers, almost all of them from the Sea to Sky region. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic altering the original plan, SAC actually increased the lineup and was able to successfully alter the trajectory of the festival to celebrate Arts, Culture, and Heritage, all while maintaining impeccable safety.

SAC plans to build upon the relationship with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw to again partner in presenting local Indigenous artists and talent of all disciplines, from storytelling and language workshops to traditional dancing performances. In continuing to build this partnership, SAC hopes to represent traditional and contemporary art and culture, while showcasing local artists.

SAC will again dedicate a part of the line-up to emerging artists. In this way, SAC nurtures an environment supportive of Canadian music creators. This approach has proven successful over the years and has supported incredible talent to move onto becoming established within the Canadian music scene, here in Squamish and beyond!
