The Squamish Arts Council facilitates its Youth at Art program which looks to engage youth with arts & culture.
The Youth at Art program has three areas of focus:
Youth Scholarship
Since 2016 SAC has been offering scholarships for youth to participate in summer arts and culture activities and to date has provided nearly 100 scholarships to youth in need. This has been made possible by the BC Arts Council and local partners including Squamish Academy of Music, Happimess, and Squamish Dance Centre. We’re proud to be welcoming Royal LePage Black Tusk Realty as a partner for our 2019 Youth Scholarships.
Amped in the Park
Starting in 2017 by a group of volunteers, Amped in the Park aims to engage people from all backgrounds and ages in music and performance art. Amped pairs students with industry professionals as mentors where they will learn stage and sound management on a professional system.
Programs
SAC coordinates a variety of programs that aim to provide access to and engagement in arts and culture. This has resulted in the installation of six youth created pieces of public art since 2014, skills development in film production, the creation of youth bands, and passing on of artistic knowledge and heritage with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh.
We’re proud to have partnered with Recreation Services, BC Arts Council, the Province of BC, Squamish Nation, Climb and Conquer, RBC Canada, the Public Art Committee, and the Squamish Home Depot to have offered these programs to hundreds of youth.
